Your clipboard history

Clips, favorites, filters and nearby copies.

Find the right clip

Open history with ⌘⌥V and start typing. Search covers text, recognized words in images, file names and the source app. Narrow results by type, app and date using the sidebar or filter button.

⌘0 clears the query and filters. Space opens a preview when clips have focus; ⌘Y also works from the search field.

In Settings → History, Reset window state lets you choose an immediate reset after closing or a delay of 1–1440 minutes. The default is one minute: reopening before the delay expires preserves the query, filters, Favorites view and selected clip. After a reset, the next opening shows all history without search or filters, with the first clip selected. You can turn resetting off. An open window is never reset; saved clips and favorites are not deleted.

Thumbnails are stored in ~/Library/Caches/Buffera/Thumbnails (up to 64 MB and 512 files). Opening history uses the cache or saved image bytes and does not read original files. A file without a cached thumbnail shows an icon. An explicit preview with Space or ⌘Y may read the original and request folder access, then cache its thumbnail. Concealed clips are not cached; hiding or deleting a clip removes its thumbnail.

Keep important clips close

Click the star or press ⌘D to favorite a clip. Favorites survive restarts and are protected from automatic cleanup. Search and filters work in Favorites, too.

Right-click a favorite and choose “Label…” to add a description, such as “Home Wi-Fi password”. Labels of up to 120 characters appear above the content, including on concealed items; the password stays masked. Leave the field empty to remove the label. Labels survive restarts, repeated copies, and removing the favorite star. They are unencrypted metadata: do not put the secret itself in a label. Labels are not included in content search, MCP responses, or chat.

The pin button to the right of the search field pins the window above other apps. Escape keeps a pinned window open; confirming a copy still closes it. For side-by-side work, choose a left or right edge panel in Appearance settings.

What came before and after

Click the clock on a clip or press ⇧⌘N. Buffera shows the anchor clip and up to 10 copies on either side in time. This list uses all history, regardless of your current filters.

Back to history restores your search and list position. Copying identical content updates the existing clip; this is not a separate log of every repeated copy.

Drag or copy a different way

Drag clips into editors, chats and Finder. Original files must still be available at their saved paths. Dragging does not change the system clipboard; format support depends on the receiving app.

Use Copy differently in the context menu to remove formatting, clean up line breaks, format JSON or strip tracking parameters from a link. Available actions depend on the content. The original clip stays intact.
