Getting started
Installation, first launch and your first saved clip.
Download BufferaInstall Buffera
The release build runs on a Mac with Apple Silicon and macOS 14 or later. Local history does not need an account.
- Download Buffera using the button at the top of this page.
- Open the DMG and drag Buffera into Applications.
- Launch Buffera. Its icon appears in the menu bar.
Updates
Buffera checks GitHub Releases in the background at most once a day. When a newer stable version has a ready DMG for Apple Silicon, two small red dots appear on Buffera’s menu bar icon. A matching item in its menu opens the Updates settings tab directly. There are no update notices in the history panel, and background checks do not open windows.
Open Settings → Updates to view the installed and available versions, open the GitHub release or skip it. Skipping removes the dots and menu item while keeping the release accessible in settings. Check for Updates… and Check for Updates Automatically are also available here.
The check requests only public release metadata; clipboard history is not sent. Network errors appear in settings and retain an update already found. GitHub rate limits also apply to manual checks.
Copy. Find. Bring it back.
- Copy text or an image in any app. Buffera saves new copies while it is running.
- Press ⌘⌥V. Select a clip with the mouse or arrow keys.
- Press Enter to copy the selected clip and close the window.
- Return to your app and paste with ⌘V.
Make it yours
Open settings with the gear button or ⌘,. Choose the language in General, and the theme, column count and window position in Appearance. Theme changes apply immediately; language changes require a restart.
To launch Buffera with your Mac, turn on Launch at login in Settings → General. You can download search and assistant models later; ordinary clipboard history works without them.
