Ask Buffera
A local assistant with answers linked to your clips.
Enable the assistant
In Settings → AI, find Ask Buffera and choose Download model and enable. Gemma 4 E2B uses about 2.84 GB and runs on Apple Silicon.
The assistant and semantic search are enabled independently. Without the search model, the assistant searches by words. It does not need the permission for external MCP agents.
Ask your history a question
Click Ask in history. Try “What connection error did I copy yesterday?” The assistant finds and reads clips, then checks nearby copies when needed.
The answer appears as it is generated. Sources below it show the app and copy time. Open a source to check the original clip.
- Enter sends a question; Shift+Enter adds a new line.
- Stop or Escape during an answer cancels generation.
- New conversation clears the current conversation.
What stays on your Mac
The built-in model processes history locally. Conversations are kept in memory until Buffera quits and are not written to disk. Closing the window stops the current answer.
