Troubleshooting
Practical next steps when something does not work as expected.
The app or history will not open
Check that your Mac has Apple Silicon and macOS 14+. If macOS blocks launch, try opening it once, then allow Buffera under Privacy & Security in System Settings.
If ⌘⌥V does not work, open history from the menu bar icon. Close another app using that shortcut or choose a new one in Settings → Shortcuts.
An expected clip is missing
- Make sure Buffera is running and capture is not paused.
- Allow clipboard access if macOS requests it.
- Press ⌘0 to remove the query and filters.
- Copy the content again. Copies made during lock or sleep are skipped.
- Check secret settings: marked confidential clips are not saved by default.
- For dictation or automatic text insertion, check Save temporary clips in Settings → History. These clips are not saved by default; confidential clips also require encrypted secret storage.
Search or the assistant is not ready
Open AI. Check the model download and that the relevant feature is enabled. Semantic search also requires history indexing. On battery, choose Continue now or connect power.
If text in an image cannot be found, check OCR progress in the Buffera menu bar menu. Retry recognition restarts failed attempts. Hidden images are not recognized.
The agent cannot access history
Launch the current Buffera version, enable access in the MCP tab and check the path in your client configuration. Restart MCP in the agent after an app update. Hidden clips always return without content.
A file in history is unavailable
Buffera stores a reference to the original file, not a backup. Check whether it was moved or deleted. To keep an image permanently, use Save as; Show in Finder creates a temporary export.
