Connect an agent
Give Codex or Claude Code access to ordinary history through MCP.
Connect from settings
- Launch the current Buffera version at least once to prepare history.
- Open Settings → MCP and enable Allow agents to read history.
- Choose Claude Code Command or Codex Command. Run the copied command in Terminal with the chosen agent’s CLI installed.
- Reconnect MCP in your agent. Restart the connected MCP process after updating Buffera.
Buffera inserts its actual path. Copying a command does not itself enable access or change the agent’s settings. Search and assistant models are optional for this connection.
Manual configuration
Copy configuration gives you JSON with the current path. The example below assumes installation in /Applications. If your client uses another format, map command and args to its fields.
{
"mcpServers": {
"buffera": {
"command": "/Applications/Buffera.app/Contents/MacOS/BufferaMCP",
"args": []
}
}
}Could not copy. Select the text and copy it manually.
What the agent can do
| Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
search_history | Search by words and meaning with filters |
read_clip | Read a retrieved clip in chunks |
get_neighbors | Look up nearby copies |
All tools are read-only. They do not change history or the system clipboard. Images expose cached OCR; files expose saved paths. Hidden content is never shared, only safe metadata.
Control access
Turn off permission in the MCP tab to block further reads. A running process checks it on every request. Previously read content may remain in the agent’s context.
